For those of you who might find yourself on the other side of the pond this summer, I invite you to join me as I give a concert in Salle Franck, Paris, France with the amazing baritone Randall Scarlata on the evening of July 7th. The program will include "Le passage des reves", as well as the awe-inspiring "Dichterliebe" of Robert Schumann and the final song cycles of Faure and Barber.

With "Chansons de Diane" successfully launched, the focus turns back to an older song cycle. The stunning mezzo-soprano Abagail Wright will sing "Le passage des reves" in Teaneck, NJ just outside of New York on April 16th. See the concerts page for full details.

"Chansons de Diane", a new duo song cycle for soprano, tenor, and piano has been completed and will be published by Rassel Editions as Op. 24.

A new cycle of songs in the making...... "Chansons de Diane" are almost finished. This setting of four Baudeliare poems, for soprano, tenor and piano, will be premiered by two excellent singers from Philadelphia, Rebecca Siler and Jeff Dinsmore in a recital in March. Details forthcoming....

Sonatine, for solo harp, written for Coline-Marie Orliac has been comlpeted. It will be published by Rassel Editions as Opus 23.

Dr. Boyle is now working on two song cycles for soprano and piano. The first "Chansons de Diane" is a setting of four Baudelaire poems. The second "Folksongs of Another World" ("Chansons folklorique d'un monde ailleurs") set several 16th and 17th English poems, by the likes of Ben Jonson and John Donne.

On Oct. 27th, Dr. Boyle will give a Lecture - Concert on Schumann's "Kreisleriana", Op. 16, as a featured guest in the EAMA Music Lecture Series in New York City. Going benig contrapuntal motives, Dr. Boyle will will focus on the "restructuring" of contrapuntal laws that give Schumann's work astrong sense of holistic cohesion and intrinsic unity.

Flutist Mimi Stillman and pianist Charlie Abramovic have just finished recording Sonata-Cantelina. The recording, made by George Blood, will be released in several months. Stay tuned for details. In the meantime, enjoy a video of the premiere here.

The 15th year of the EAMA Summer Program in Paris has successfully come to a conclusion. Dr. Boyle teaches counterpoint, keyboard harmony, analysis, and vocal writing techniques to a selection of the finest young composers, conductors, and interpreters from all over the world. Special guests this year included David Conte, Simone Dinnerstein, and Jonathan Dawe.

The Cantata: To One in Paradise was performed in Philadelphia by the exceptional Crossing Choir and the Philadelphia Virtuoso Orchestra, led by conductor Donald Nally. Read David Patrick Stearns review in the Philadelphia Inquirer here.

Rassel Editions has released two works of Dr. Boyle's: Sonata-Cantilena, for flute and piano (Opus 21) and Down with the Rosemary (Opus 22). Sonata-Cantilena will be premiered by Dolce Souno Chamber Music Series 2/17/10 in Philadelphia.

Conductor Donald Nally has requested a new choral work entitled Down with the Rosemary to be premiered by the Vocal Arts Ensemble of Cincinnati in December 2009. The concerts will also feature The Holly and the Ivy and Lo, how a Rose e'er blooming.

The EAMA Summer Music Program kicks off its 14th year this July in Paris, France. This is the 10th year that Dr. Boyle has been an integral part of this unique and powerful program for young composers, conductors, and chamber musicians.

Dr. Boyle has been commissioned to write a medium sized work for flute and piano by Dolce Suono, a Philadelphia-based chamber music group. The piece, written in honor of the centennary of Samuel Barber, will be premiered in early 2010 in Philadelphia, dates and times TBA, with Mimi Stillman, flute and Charles Abramovic, piano.

Two works of Dr. Boyle have been publihsed by Rassel Editions. Hudson Sinfonia, recently preimered by the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra is now Op. 19. A new setting of the piano work Impromptus and Arabesques for orchestra is now Op. 20.

The premiere performance of Hudson Sinfonia, with the Brass of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, will be broadcast live April 29th at 8:15 on NPR station WQXR in New York City. The broadcast will also be available live streaming on www.wqxr.com. Dr. Boyle will be interviewed at Intermission.

Three new works of Dr. Boyle have been published by Rassel Editions. They include Three Canticles, for organ and choir, Op. 16, Impromptus and Arabesuqes, for piano solo, Op. 17, and The Holly and the Ivy, for choir, Op. 18.

The Holly and the Ivy was premiered at the Civic Opera of Chicago with the Chorus of Chicago Lyric Opera. The concert was reviewed in the Chicago Sun-Times.

Violinst Tim Fain and pianist/composer Benjamin C.S. Boyle performed the Sonata-Fantasy at the Kennedy Center in Washington and Merkin Hall in New York as part of Young Concert Artists Composer Concerts. The performance and the work received wide critical acclaim in The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Washington Times.

Dr. Boyle has been commissioned by the Friends of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra for a work for brass ensemble to be jointly premiered with the New York Philharmonic April 29, 2009 at Riverside Church, New York. An additional performance, with the Royal Concertgebouw Brass alone will take place at Rockefeller Univeristy two days later, May 1, 2009.
